Interviews and Thieves

The NPR interview from last week will air over the weekend on 89.3 KPCC down here in SoCal, but everyone can hear it now the SCPR Website! No, they did not use anything I said (I figured as much) but they do mention me by name and the interview itself turned out well and hopefully will generate good audiences and more good vibes!

And we could use some good vibes right about now - sometime over the last three days our sound board  (or rather the Macbook that runs the sound system) was stolen right out of the theatre. So last night we did a show with no sound - which was quite difficult, because for a Deaf West production we have a surprising amount of sound and music. And the missing sound doesn't just hurt the experience for the hearing audience - the Deaf audience members miss out on the vibration effects (via subwoofers placed beneath the seats) that deliberately coincide with the sound cues.

So the theatre is hurriedly seeking a Macbook that can be donated or rented for the rest of the run - here's hoping we have one by curtain tonight. It is pretty infuriating to think that someone would steal from a non-profit theatre like DWT - one that relies almost solely on grants, donations and volunteers to keep providing the kind of high quality, meaningful theatre it has for almost 20 years.

But - to reference a line of mine and Amber's that consistently rings true for this entire experience - we are "bound in blood", this cast and crew, and we'll continue to bring our powerful story to the stage four nights a week!
